I can't seem to find ashes' post about the gluten intolerance (not really an allergy, but sure acts that way). That's my most limiting problem right now. Add to that allergies to shellfish (note to buckyreed - there is no such thing as a "minor" allergy to shrimp, it can kill you easily) and the nightshade family (bell peppers, eggplant and tomatoes), and eating at restaurants is a royal pain. I just eat lots of steak {smile}. When I mentioned to the allergist that bell peppers and I didn't get along, he said he was surprised that I didn't also have problems w/ eggplant and tomatoes. A light went on in my head. I can't tell you how many times I'd wondered how I could possibly have an upset stomach, when all I had for lunch was a SALAD!

I did the shots with dramatic results as a kid (one of the early experimental subjects) and again in college. Now, a Claratin a day pretty much controls the environmental allergies (dust, mold, goldenrod, mimosa trees, etc.) and eating a boring diet takes care of most of the food ones. Perfume on other people, though, especially those that have a musk base, still gets me instantly. I have found that the expensive floral perfumes (like Joy) don't bother me, so I actually wear some on special occasions.

Hi, ellenorax, welcome.

*blows dust off the chairs*

Well, for starters, I'm the stumbler formerly known as buckyreed. As for ashes' post on gluten, I believe it was #13.

Great that you discovered the link between the bell peppers, eggplants, and tomatoes. Gotta love those *aha!* moments. Interestingly, belladonna (deadly nightshade) is sometimes prescribed for severe stomach cramps.

As for my shrimp allergy, you're probably right about most all such allergies, but mine *is* relatively minor. It's also a weird case - I'm only allergic to shrimp (and raw egg whites) because there's a protein in them that is structurally similar to milk casein. So my reaction to those two foods is just a milder version of my reaction to milk. I can eat all other shellfish just fine.

Glad to have you here, hope you don't mind the haunted old house atmosphere. :p

Does anyone take Advair for Asthma or COPD? If so, have you experienced any bad side effects? I had to quit taking it because of the effects I have suffered. I only took it for 3 or 4 months & quit about 1 1/2 weeks ago. My problems still remain & aren't any better. I thought of starting a group on just the effects of Advair, but maybe people will come to this site. I want to see how many others have suffered with the same side effects. Carol
