 Sponsor | maggles | Apr 24, 2005 8:27am | That's not a common allergen, I mean.
I'm allergic to sarcasm. And cynical remarks. I can't stand them. I start being very prickly as a result, like a defensive hedgehog.
I may have to work on my sense of humour, though. :]
PS. Sorry if this doesn't fit the group's topic, but it seemed a bit quiet, and I felt like posting this here. :o) |

| Sponsor | buckyreed | Apr 24, 2005 8:44am | It has been a bit quiet here--I suppose we need more members before it reaches some kind of critical mass, discussion-wise.
I'm not necessarily opposed to off-topic or funny posting in here--especially when done in a new thread like this one. I haven't set out any rules and regulations because of the low number of members, but if things get unruly you will all find me to be a capricious and ornery thread-master ;)
Hmm...your post reminds me of a story...
When I was very young, my pre-school teacher, upon finding out about my horrible allergy, asked me if anyone else in my family had such allergies. I thought about it for a second, then responded with "well, my dad's allergic to work!"
On a more serious note, I would have to say I am "allergic" to willful ignorance. I can't stand it when people assume an "I don't know and I don't care" kind of attitude.
On a lighter note once again, I find I have a mild intolerance for the superfluous "u" in British wourds ;) |
|
| Sponsor | maggles | Apr 24, 2005 8:51am | Oh. Well then, I shall tell that to my English teachers, all of whom INSISTED on the British way of spelling. Speling.
:)
(Are you allergic to the superfluous "l", as well? Say, in "travelling"?)
*runs...
to adjust her sense of humor and her perceptions of color*
PS. I failed to address the ACTUAL post, sorry. The anecdote was funny, and I agree with you on the attitude you dislike. I haven't met too many people with that sort of behavior (sic?), thankfully! :) |

| Sponsor | buckyreed | Apr 24, 2005 9:04am | Dang...you seem to be sayin' that this Geowgia boy ain't done much travelin'. You'll likely find most of my travelllling done in the US, as we are the only country (to my knowledge) with the kind of federal regulation of ingredients labellling that allows me to eat with peroushing.
Otherwise, I'd be more than happy to tromp on over. Of course, I could do it anyway, but you'd have to cook for me! |

Oh no, I didn't mean YOUR SORT OF BEHAVIOUR!! Behavior! Whatever! :) I meant the sort of behaviour you had described! "willful ignorance"
As for the travelling bit, you're welcome to visit my country. And my OTHER country. But I could only buy you pizza or something you're not allergic to, since I can't really cook. Feel free to say I'm "willfully ignorant" in the cooking department. :o)
Do they put egg whites in pizza? Or milk? Such a shame if you can't have pizza. :( Shrimps I detest, myself. I always knew they were evil. That eight-legged sea creature also. Yuck.
PS. Well, okay, just once, I could cook a complete stranger a meal. Perhaps. If I was in the mood. But maybe not. I'm having a bad day, sorry.
Have you heard REM's "Bad Day"? Such a great song!
This has gone so off topic, it's awful! *runs* |

| Sponsor | buckyreed | Apr 24, 2005 9:34am | I make a darned good pizza without cheese. That may sound like a bowl of cereal without milk to most folks, but hey--I eat that, too!
maggles, I thought you mentioned "travelling" because you were poking fun at me for not liking the Britoush spellings. I just find them snooty, that's all--probably because I see them as refined, and I'm secretly ashamed of American cultural ignorance.
*sigh* I love shrimp, they just don't love me anymore. |
|
| Sponsor | maggles | Apr 24, 2005 9:42am | I never ever poke fun at anyone. Ever. Sorry if you understood it thusly. I am so defensive sometimes, though, that I sometimes think --back on topic!-- that some people make fun of me! And it's SUCH a bad feeling, when you think you're being mocked. So I really didn't mean it that way. I was just writing in my usual-ish defensive manner.
(People have told me my British English was snobbish (snooty?), too, but... Do I blame you for learning American English the way you've learnt it?? No! See?)
Don't be ashamed of your "American cultural ignorance". I'm not ashamed of my Macedonian/Croatian origins, and I AM retarded re: World Geography and Latest News Events and Politics and such. Computers, too! :)
PS. And I'd like to promote this group, if I may. Hope no one minds. For girls only! |

AACK!!
